Rules

1 To be able to compete, the competitor must be a fully paid-up member of the Central Coast SUP Club and have signed the waiver form.
2 To register for the 2024 season and be assigned a heat, you need to have completed the registration form on the club website.
3 All competitors must wear a legrope.
4 All competitors must use the required board per the heat category. For example, for the 10ft+ category, competitors must surf with a minimum 10ft board.
5 Heats will start per the scheduled time. It is up to the competitor to attend their heat and be in the water in time – the timekeeper will not wait for late running competitors.
6 In a situation whereby non-attendance results in a single competitor heat, that competitor will be placed into another heat – where possible.

Note: That heat may not necessarily be in the listed competition category.

7 There is no formal priority system in place. Therefore, gentlemen’s rules apply. This means that, whilst you are in a competition, when it comes to wave priority, treat it like you are surfing with your friends and regular crew.

Note: Drop-in and Interference/ Snaking rules (items 17 & 18) are in place.

8 Heats & Finals are 20 mins in duration.
9 Surfers have a maximum of 10 waves. Once the 10 waves are exhausted, no further waves will be scored for that competitor.
10 Heats / Finals will commence with a single blast on the air-horn.
11 Heats / Finals will complete with two blasts on the air-horn.
12 A wave being ridden prior to, or during, the start of the Heat being announced by the air-horn, will not be scored.

When the end of the Heat is announced by the air-horn, a rider must be clearly in possession of the wave and traversing the wave face for the ride to be scored.

13 A flag system will be in place for competitor benefit.

When the Heat/ Final begins the Green flag will be displayed.

When 5 minutes are remaining in the Heat/ Final the Amber flag will be displayed.

When the Heat/ Final has ended, or the event is ‘on hold’, the Red flag will be displayed.

14 The rider’s highest 2 scores for each Heat/ Final will be combined to determine the rider’s final score.
15 In the event of a tied Heat/ Final – the next highest wave for each competitor will be taken until the tie has been broken and a winner determined.
16 Accumulative point scores towards club championship will be from the 2 highest heat scores-only. Scores from Finals will not count towards championship points. The aim of this is to keep the competition as close as possible whilst still rewarding consistently well-performing riders.
17 Drop-in rides (as determined by the head judge) will not be scored and repeat offences (2) will result in heat disqualification.
18 Deliberate interference and snaking may result in heat disqualification – depending upon the seriousness and impact on other competitors as determined by the head judge.
19 The judge’s decisions are final and not up for debate – support the judges, officials, and volunteers at all times.
20 There is a ‘No Whinging’ rule in place at all times – whilst this is competition it is also intended to be a fun and enjoyable club activity with your clubmates – this is not the WSL

Tour and your professional surfing career is not at stake.

21 While competing, judging or spectating, all members are bound by the Central Coast SUP Club Code of Conduct.
22 The safety of all overrules everything else. The competition official’s role is to ensure a safe event. Competitions will be cancelled where conditions pose a threat to competitor safety – this includes mid-event abandonment.
23 Whilst safety is number one. Having fun is a very close second and mandatory.
